Hooray!!! but I can tell from the title that this is going to be one of those "well no shit. This is obvious." ones, like most episodes of mythbusters are. Still going to enjoy it though.

*EDIT*

The science here is actually way better than Mythbusters.

I once watched an MCM video and really disliked the production, but watching this new one it's a lot better. I've missed out a lot. Thanks for sharing.

So according to this it works better at idle/heat soak and just a tad worse in motion?

I wonder if the black paint (acting as an insulator) is partially the reason that they did not see a better Delta between the two temperature readings under convection.

I understand how the color affects the way it radiates heat without airflow (convection); but the paint could be affecting the way the aluminum is able to transfer the heat away from the intercooler.

Any ideas?

me no can science... but that makes good sense. Seems at the very least to have no harm in painting black, which I think is the real value of their testing. black, silver, who cares do it how you like

That's what I thought at first too. Then I did about an hour of research on the topic after watching this. Very interesting stuff. Makes sense once you read up on it.

Their production has been excellent for the past few years now. Their two films are top notch as well. I was in the same boat as you, but after coming back to them a few months ago, I have binge watched all their recent stuff. I would say these guys deserve their own TV show, but that would just ruin it.

Those were my exact thoughts. Especially considering when you see some newer intercoolers that have black fins. My guess would be that they used an anodizing process. I'd be curious to see anodizing compared to water transfer printing (if that would even work with an intercooler). My money would be on anodizing being the best process to achieve the desired results.
